MDCP Record for 04180701
Collection Date: April 18, 2007
County or City: Monroe
Collector's Notes: "North American Yellow Morel 'Morchella esculenta.' Found growing scattered from soil in red cedar (Juniperus virginiana) stand (approx. 2 acres). No large trees within toppling range other than red cedar. Various understory and saplings within 20 feet include sumac (Rhus glabra), dogwood (Cornus florida), poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera), pawpaw (Asimina triloba), sassafras (Sassafras albidum) and unidentified oak, possibly white (Quercus alba). Collection consists of one fruiting body. Collector speculates that this fungus has absorbed pigment from red cedar tree and that identification of the pigment may provide a mycorrhizal link between the two species."
Note: Not sequenced; not cited in Kuo et al., 2012.
