Collector's Notes: ECOLOGY: Burn site at ~ 4,000 ft.; burned lightly in summer 2003; fir zone. MORPHOLOGY: Specimen several days old; sent fresh by overnight mail. Fairly well preserved, but some signs of mold apparent. Pileus 8 cm x 9 cm at widest point; subglobose; rim to about 8 mm deep and 15 mm wide; about 27 vertical ridges transecting the diameter at the widest point; pits and ridges +/- vertically arranged, with occasional in top-to-bottom channels; cross-ridges occasionally reaching the height of the main ridges, but typically more shallow. Ridges narrow; velvety; gray becoming black. Pits minutely velvety; gray tinted olive; to over 20 mm deep. Stipe 4 cm long (probably; specimen sliced at base by collector) and 3.5 cm wide at widest point; probably clavate; ribbed at base; smooth but finely pubescent near apex; off-white to gray; packed with chambered white flesh at base, hollow near apex. Interior surfaces white, pimply-pubescent. Spore print released on scanner glass pale orange-yellow. Ammonia negative on all surfaces. KOH negative on stipe surface and interior surfaces, olive on hymenium. Iron salts negative on all surfaces. Asci 8-spored; 192-240 x 24 m. Spores elliptical; 21-27 x 14-16 m.
