Collector's Notes: ECOLOGY: Burn site at ~ 4,000 ft.; burned lightly in summer 2003; fir zone. MORPHOLOGY: Specimen several days old; sent fresh by overnight mail. Fairly well preserved. Pileus 6 cm x 5 cm at widest point; sharply conical; rim to about 3 mm deep and 5 mm wide; about 40 vertical ridges transecting the diameter at the widest point; pits and ridges vertically arranged, with many top-to-bottom channels; cross-ridges mostly sunken, laddered. Ridges finely velvety; black. Pits minutely velvety; cinnamon tan; to about 5 mm deep. Stipe 5 cm long and 3.5 cm wide at widest point; subequal, flaring to apex; ribbed at base; smooth and leathery overall, pubescent near apex; white at base, grayish tan above; chambered with white flesh near base, hollow towards the pileus. Interior surface tan in pileus, white in stem; pimply-pubsescent. Spore print released on scanner glass pale orange-yellow. Ammonia negative on all surfaces. KOH pale orange then gray on interior surface, pale orange then gray on stipe surface, negative on hymenium. Iron salts negative on hymenium, gray on stipe surface, negative to grayish on interior surfaces. Asci 8-spored; +/- 192 x 17 m. Spores elliptical; 23.5-27 x 16-17 m.
