Collector's Notes: ECOLOGY: Burn site at ~ 4,000 ft.; burned lightly in summer 2003; fir zone. MORPHOLOGY: Specimen several days old; sent fresh by overnight mail. Fairly well preserved but with some small signs of mold. Pileus 4 cm x 2.5 cm; conical with a sharp point; rim to about 2 mm deep and 2 mm wide; about 30 vertical ridges transecting the diameter at the widest point; pits and ridges vertically arranged, with only a few channels extending from top to bottom of pileus; cross-ridges shallow or at same level as main ridges, not creating a laddered effect. Ridges fairly smooth, only minutely velvety; black. Pits minutely velvety; black; to about 5 mm deep. Stipe 1.5 cm long and 1.5 cm wide at widest point; subclavate; somewhat ribbed at base; whitish, discoloring tan; finely velvety; not hollow--filled with chambered, reddish tan to whitish flesh, all the way to the pileus. Interior surface black with white pubescence (stipe inner surface white). No spore print released on scanner glass; none from collector. Ammonia pale orange on stipe surface, negative elsewhere. KOH reddish on stem surface, negative elsewhere. Iron salts negative on all surfaces. Asci immature.
