Collector's Notes: ECOLOGY: Burn site at ~ 4,000 ft.; burned lightly in summer 2003; fir zone. MORPHOLOGY: Specimen several days old; sent fresh by overnight mail. Fairly well preserved but with some small signs of mold. Pileus 6 cm x 3.5 cm; bluntly conical but not sharply pointed; rim about 1 mm deep and 1 mm wide; about 19 vertical ridges transecting the diameter at the widest point; pits and ridges vertically arranged, with some channels extending from top to bottom of pileus. Ridges densely velvety; tan to yellowish brown. Pits minutely velvety; whitish; to about 1 cm deep. Stipe 3 cm long and 2.5 cm wide at widest point; clavate and flaring to apex; white in places, but mostly tan and densely tan-velvety; with a few ribs, especially near the base; not hollow--densely packed with white flesh, almost to the pileus. Interior surface white and pubescent; (with some cottony wisps that probably represent a mold). No spore print released on scanner glass; none from collector. Ammonia very pale orange, then grayish on interior surfaces and stem surface; negative on hymenium. KOH negative on all surfaces. Iron salts negative on all surfaces. Asci 8-spored; +/- 170 x 19 m. Spores elliptical; 17-24.5 x 11-13 m.
