Collector's Notes: ECOLOGY: Burn site at ~ 4,000 ft.; burned lightly in summer 2003; fir zone. MORPHOLOGY: Specimen several days old; sent fresh by overnight mail. Fairly well preserved but with some small signs of mold. Pileus 3 cm x 2.5 cm; irregular-ovoid, not sharply pointed; rim varying, but 3 mm deep and 2 mm wide at widest point; about 26 vertical ridges transecting the diameter at the widest point; pits and ridges somewhat vertically arranged, but dense and irregular overall. Ridges black; thick; furry-velvety. Pits gray to black; hard to see; more or less smooth, or finely velvety; up to 3 mm deep. Stipe 2 cm long and 1.5 cm wide at widest point; subclavate; black and finely velvety; dark brown in places; fairly thickly chambered with yellowish tan flesh. Interior surface blackish brown with white pubescence. No spore print released on scanner glass; none from collector. Ammonia negative on all surfaces. KOH negative on all surfaces. Iron salts negative on all surfaces. Many asci immature. Asci 8-spored; +/- 168-192 x 19 m. Spores elliptical; 16-20.5 x 13-15 m.

Note: Collection appears to match Morchella tomentosa. Not sequenced; not cited in Kuo, 2008 or in Kuo et al., 2012.
