Collector's Notes: Dark brown, gray, black cap colour, light stem, regular pits, conical cap shape, various heights and cone shapes. Spore print: cream � yellow. Burnt cutblock (approx. 15 years since timber harvest) (fire occurred August 2003) dominant tree species Larix occidentalis (Western Larch) and Populus tremuloides (Trembling Aspen). Northwest facing slope, surrounding forest contains Larch, Douglas-Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii), and Ponderosa Pine (Pinus ponderosa). Morels growing in great abundance among burnt larch regeneration where fire severity had burnt all foliage but left substantial fuel � ie moderately severe scorch. Colonies focused around burnt stumps and downed woody debris. Weather conditions: warm spring, recent cooling, two days of rain showers preceding May 15th, followed by sunny, hot (25 C+), weather.
