Collector's Notes: Yellow Morel. Site Description: South facing slope of ridge, elevation 1,400 ft. Mixed hardwoods, Maple, ash, hickory and beech 50-60 years of age. Occasional cedar and fir (old growth excess of 200yr.) Grade of slope 60+ degrees, numerous slumps on hillside where mushrooms appeared on or at edges of disturbed soil. Isolated occurrence, no other yellow Morels noted on ridge. Environmental Conditions: Air temperature 16 degrees C. Soil temperature 14 degrees C. Creek and runoff water 10 degrees C. Local pollen count for Poplar was moderate and Birch/Maple high. Other Plants: Grasses and moss where soil was stable. Soil: Sandy loam to depth of 8 inches, �L� layer mostly deciduous leaf and twigs, �F� layer indistinguishable, �H� layer 1/8th inch where bound in moss roots, �A� layer 2� to non existent in slump areas, �B&C� undetermined.
