MDCP Record for 04070402 Collection Date: April 07, 2004 County or City: Lane Collector's Notes: Picked in a burn site. "Most, if not all the morels that we have picked [in this location] have fit nicely under Morchella elata, except for the three mushrooms enclosed. They were found on a bench, above the creek, among Hemlock, Vine Maple, and old growth Douglas Fir, that burned last Aug. The cap was velvety black, with very tight, compact folds. The stipe was almost black, unlike other morels I have seen. The ground was pretty dry, and many of the mushrooms we found were past their prime." Administrative note: This collection has been identified as Morchella tomentosa and is cited as material examined in Kuo, 2008.
