Collector's Notes: First spotted Morel on 5/11/2003 and have found them consistantly to date. 5/29/2003. 95% of morels were found in areas such as this. Large ridges and hollows run North and South all the way to Lake Erie. About 20 miles. Each time I could find an area where the steep hillside gave way to a flat area, that area would have dead Elms and Morels. No other tree that I looked at produced including Ash. However about 70 miles North, Ash trees did produce. Ground cover and plants included Jack in the Pulpit, Trillium, Wild Violet, some Queen Annes Lace nearer the creek. Mayapples which were tall and flowering. Tree variety included Beech, Walnut, Oak, Cherry and Elm. Some Elms were alive. Mushrooms were found on dead Elm. Distance from tree varied but usually between 2 and 7 feet away.

Note: This collection has been identified as Morchella esculentoides, and is cited in Kuo et al., 2012.
