Collector's Notes: Morel sent was picked on 4/24/2003. The weather was sunny and 60 degrees. The past week had been cooler with nightime temps in the 40s. The ground had plenty of moisture from a rain a few days before. It rained on 4/20 about 1/2 inch. I found the morel in approx. the same area I had found them last year. 60s during day. The morel was found 35 ft from a dying Elm (american) A red maple was around 50 ft away. A Red Oak was around 12 ft away. A smaller Elm (10 inch diameter) was 3 ft away. Purple violets were within 20 inches. An immature mayapple patch was 60 ft away. Briars (blackberry) were nearby, a few shoots of blackberry was right beside it. Maybe 10 in away. The geography of the area was bottomland right beside a quarter mile sloped hill. Very steep. Morel was found right where the hill met the flat bottom-land. Hardwoods like Oak and Elm dominated the area.

Note: This collection has been identified as Morchella esculentoides, and is cited in Kuo et al., 2012.
