The MushroomExpert.Com Herbarium

Herbarium Database

The MushroomExpert.Com Herbarium contains thousands of mushrooms, collected from 1994 to the present. Most of the collections are my own, made in Illinois and Michigan--or other states where I have collected (California, Colorado, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania among them). A few collections represent material that has been sent to me for study.

Morels and false morels (defined loosely to include Gyromitra, Disciotis, Verpa, and Helvella) are not included in the herbarium; my collections of these mushrooms have been donated to the Morel Data Collection Project and the False Morel Project.

Most herbarium collections are represented by journal entries describing the ecology and morphology of the mushrooms, photographs or scans, and dried material. Vouchers are available for scientific study by professional mycologists, who should e-mail with requests.

The herbarium database is incomplete; collections will be entered as time allows.
