False Morel Project Record for 05260601 Collection Date: May 26, 2006 County or City: Monroe Collector's Notes: Found growing beneath Eastern Hemlock (Tsuga canadensis), with Pin Cherry (Prunus pennsylvanica) and Silver Maple (Acer saccharinum) growing nearby. Found in a city park in a landscaped area. Although growing in a mulch bed, these specimens grew from the soil beneath the mulch layer. These Helvella specimens grew in clusters with 2-12 fruiting bodies per cluster. [Notes from Michael Kuo: 2% unstained KOH mount. Asci 8-spored; 130-150 x 12-17 µ. Paraphyses 130-150 x 5-7 µ; hyaline; cylindric to subcapitate. Spores mostly still in asci; hyaline; broadly elliptical; uniguttulate with one very large oil droplet; smooth; 12-17 x 9.5-12 µ.]
