False Morel Project Record for 05230503 Collection Date: May 23, 2005 County or City: Emmet Collector's Notes: Gyromitra leucoxantha. Pathside; ridge top; moss; under maples. 1 specimen, 8 cm across. Hymenium cinnamon tan; somewhat bumpy over center; a little wrinkled; otherwise glabrous. Excipular surface creamy; finely pubescent under a lens. Stipe +/- central; 2 x 3 cm; whitish; surface continuous with excipular surface. Context whitish to watery; juice when squeezed colorless. Odor not distinctive. Paraphyses with granular orangish contents in KOH mount; tightly packed. Asci about 150-180 µ long; 8-spored; not bluing in Melzer's Reagent. Spores in tap water mount mostly 25-30 x 10-15 µ; elliptical, with blunt, "hollowed out" apiculi extending up to 3 µ (apiculi not visible in KOH mount).
