The False Morel Project: Studies in Gyromitra, Disciotis, Verpa, and Helvella Michael Kuo, Andrew Miller, and Carol Carter Established in 2006, the False Morel Project is an effort to contribute to mycological understanding of "false morels," defined loosely to include mushrooms in Gyromitra, Disciotis, Verpa, and Helvella. We hope to study specimens of false morels from across North America, focusing on their morphology, ecology, and genetics. Because of the potential danger involved with drying false morels, we are soliciting collections from experienced mushroom hunters, mycological socieities, and mycologists, rather than accepting contributions universally. If you would like to contribute to the False Morel Project, please send us an e-mail at . To see collections in the False Morel Project database, please follow the link above. Specimens will be deposited in the Illinois Natural History Survey Mycology Collection (ILLS). Cite This Page As: Kuo, M., Miller, A., and Carter, M. C. (2006, April). The false morel project.
